Etymologically, the word qurban comes from the Arabic qariba - yaqrabu - qurban wa qurbanan wa qirbanan, which means near (Ibn Manzhur: 1992: 1: 662; Munawir: 1984: 1185). In other words, qurban means getting closer to Allah through the ritual of slaughtering livestock.

The word Eid al-adha comes from "udhhiyah" which is the plural form of "dhahiyyah" (from dhaha) which means dhuha time. This is related to the qurban slaughter procession carried out after the Eid al-Adha prayer, from 10-13 Dzulhijjah.

There are many virtues in performing qurban worship. In the vertical dimension, this ritual aims to get closer to Allah SWT. Whereas in the social dimension, qurban worship is one way of helping the poor, it is the same as zakat fitrah.

Therefore, qurban meat should be distributed immediately to people in need. Here, shohibul qurban and his family can eat qurban meat, provided that the portion should not be more than 1/3 of the qurban meat and still prioritize the poor. Allah says which means:

"Then eat some of it and (partly) give it to be eaten by people who are miserable and needy." (Surah al-Hajj, 22:28)
